Paedophile's brother hits out at 'ridiculous' sentence
THE brother of a convicted child sex attacker has spoken out against his "lenient" sentence.
Frank Simmons, 54, of Hawthorn, Northway, Tewkesbury, was sentenced to 11 years behind bars for 18 different charges of indecency, indecent assault and sexual assault towards children.
He was 14 when his criminal acts began and he carried them out for a period spanning more than a decade.
During his sentencing, his actions were described as "predatory, sequential and... an abuse of trust".

His brother, 70-year-old John Simmons, has now opened up about his horror over his brother's sins.
He said he could never trust him again and has also criticised the legal system for not jailing him for longer.
He said: "It's hard to believe but it's all true.
"He has been charged and the jurors' verdict was unanimous.
"He has been given 11 years and there is a good chance that he will only do half of that.
"If that happens, he will be punished for only one year and eight months per victim.
"I just think that isn't enough. It's disgusting."
Judge William Hart, who handed Simmons his 11-year jail sentence, said he would spend at least half of it in custody.
He told the court at that time: "It may be that the victims feel individually the gravity of what has happened to them is not reflected in the sentence."
But the judge also said he had to sentence with the principle of totality, as well as consider Simmons' young age when the offences started and the fact he had committed no further offences.
At Gloucester Crown Court earlier this year, jurors heard how Simmons had threatened to suffocate his victims with a pillow if they resisted his advances and even paid one 50p not to speak of the abuse.
Simmons is now on the sexual offenders' register and serving his sentence.
But his disgusted brother feels he doesn't deserve any sympathy.
He continued: "I was there when he grew up, but there is an age difference (so we weren't together all the time).
"I am absolutely disgusted with him and how he came to do these things.
"Only 18 months ago, I would have trusted him with my life, but now I can't trust him.
"Right the way through (the trial), I heard statements from the victims about what he has done to them.
"He is an animal and should be locked up for good. Even if he had to serve the full 11 years, it would be taking the mickey.
"His sentence is far too lenient... it's ridiculous.
"He has ruined these children's lives."
