Page Three of The Sun campaign splits opinion in Gloucestershire
FORMER glamour model Gina Hawkins has rubbished calls for The Sun's Page Three to be abolished.
Gina, 33, now a bar manager who lives in Longlevens, started modelling when she was 18 and spoke out after the No More Page Three campaign earned nearly 50,000 backers.
She said: "There's nothing wrong with it. The Sun's not meant for children, and it's not as if it's the sort of thing I'd leave lying around for my kids to read. There's probably a lot worse in the news."
But others in the county disagreed and said the page, which features topless women, should go. Cirencester-based author Caroline Pover has been gathering petition signatures.

“Huckie Phil, your wife must be one strong woman, because I cannot knock out a house wall, and single handedly fit french windows, plus remove all the rubble by hand like Mr Bonza did. I would say as a human being, we are most definately equal, god help any man that tried to suggest I was just a little woman. But we are not equal physically. Personally I am fed up these bra burners trying to decide whats best for me. Its all about freedom of choice, time to start a campaign is if they try to take the vote of us or tell us we cannot leave the house alone. Equal pay for doing the same job, equal opportunities yes. But trying to ban page 3, is interfering with everyones freedom of choice, I personally don't buy the rag, and thats my choice.”

“While I'm no particular fan of the Sun, I really can't see the problem.
As has been said, women want equality, then complain when seats aren't given up for them.
On that though, I don't think that's an equality thing, more a gentlemanly thing to do.
But also I get women expecting me to hold the door open, then no 'thanks'.
So I think all in all, we have lost our manners.
I bet the same people wanting it 'banned' are the same ones who want to be able to dress 'for themselves', and go topless on the beach.
So back to the question, it's about who is exploiting who, and who is the winner/loser.
For me, it's the women that are exploiting the men, and as a bloke, I know that's because they are the stronger sex, so my wife told me to say(!), but as to who wins, it's both. The Sun consistantly outsells other tabloids, and if the readership objected that much, they wouldn't buy it. I can't really see your average bloke stumping up his cash every day JUST for page 3. I think you'll find the sports pages equally fingered, if you get my meaning.”

“Quite Takeaway, men and women are not equal in many things, like it or not. Physically in general men far outweigh women. Mentally I would say we are far more equal, craftier definately !! I as a women am quite happy to allow Mr Bonza to mow the lawn, do all the gardening, and the DIY [try and stop him ... I have and failed]. I like to do the cooking, and I do all the housework, on account its less stressfull than twitching as I watch Mr Bonza do a pretty rubbish job at it. I draw the line at crochet, knitting and embroidery though. One thing I don't like is being patronised, and believe me anyone tries I have the chops to shoot them down with. Thats what its all about, though accepting your limitations, and building your strengths. Myself and Mr Bonza are happy with our conventional lifestyle, might not suit everybody. But then thats what lifes about finding out who and what suits you, and stuff the rest of the world. for young Kaytee "we women should be looked on as equal" Parish. Well I can't see her working on a building site in the pouring rain driving a digger time soon .... can you !!”

“Why are folks so uptight about breasts? Most of us have them. Seeing them doesn't cause any adverse effect, violence or brain damage. If people were exposed to more nudity instead of less, the world would be a far better place. I for one, would rather live in a less repressed society.
I don't read The Sun, but then I'm not sure that The Sun is aimed at those who can read.”

“This is quite simple: If it offends you dont buy The Sun. The Guardian offends me so I dont purchase it. I dont buy the Sun either before you ask. The models (I use the word loosely) are not being exploited or forced to do it, so no reason to ban it.”
