Pair who crashed off bridge in Cotswolds remain in hospital

TWO people remain in hospital today after a car came off a bridge in the Cotswolds yesterday evening, landing on the carriageway below.

The incident took place at about 6.15pm, resulting in the A429 being closed until the early hours of the morning.

Last night a spokesman for Gloucestershire police said: "The vehicle, a blue Vauxhall Astra, left the over bridge at Beeches Road and crashed onto the main A429, Swindon Road. Both occupants, a male and female, suffered serious injuries.

"The male was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and the female was taken by road to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival crews discovered that the vehicle had veered off a bridge crossing the A429, as a result the car was on its roof on the carriageway with two people trapped inside."

They were able to free the passengers.

This morning police said both people remained in hospital in a serious condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses come forward. They are especially interested in hearing from a motorcyclist who was in the area at the time.
