PANCAKES flippers got under starter's orders as they broke from tradition by racing around a new course in Dursley.

Around a dozen people entered the town's annual Shrove Tuesday races, held around Sainsbury's supermarket car park because of gas main work along the usual Parsonage Street route.

"There were medals on ribbons too for first, second and third placed," the mayor said.
