SIXTY firefighters were called on to combat a blaze at a paper mill near Winchcombe at the weekend.

Crews from Cheltenham, Northleach, Tewkesbury and other parts of the county converged on Hollingsworth and Vose, at Postlip Mills, shortly after 2pm on Saturday.

They managed to contain the fire within the mill after working for several hours.

Derek Cross, area commander, praised crews for bringing the flames under control so quickly. Without their actions, he said, it could have been a lot worse due the paper and chemicals at the site.
