The parents of Sam Spargo, who died in a road accident on the A48 last weekend, have paid tribute to him.

Janet and David Spargo described their son as a “shy, very sensible boy” who “didn’t like to brag about anything” and “enjoyed life”.

Sam, 18, who went to Heron Primary and Churchdown schools, was set to embark on a career in plastering after completing a Level 2 Diploma at Gloucestershire College and gaining an award for the high standard of his work.

His main passion was for motorcycles though - a hobby he picked up from his father.

“He was on the back of my motorbike from the age of seven or eight. We both followed the British Superbikes and we were looking forward to going to the bike show at the NEC in a couple of weeks.

“As he was becoming a young man he was becoming more of a good friend. We could both go out and do things together,” he said.

“He was a very sensible motorbike rider. He knew the dangers and was always very cautious,” Mrs Spargo added.

Sam's parents said that they had been touched by all the support they had received since their son's death.

“So many people have sent tributes – his friends at college and even people who didn’t know him but were affected by what they heard. It helps a lot.

“It’s such a big hole that he’s left. You just don’t think it’s happened,” they added.

Sam’s funeral will be held at St Leonards Church in Upton St Leonards at 11am on Friday October 5 and Sam’s parents said that all are welcome to attend.
