Pay day weekend patrols to start at end of month
MOVES to bolster police resources in Cheltenham on pay day weekends did not materialise at the weekend.
The force announced plans last month to draft in volunteer special constables on Friday and Saturday nights at the end of the month to stop pay day drunks making life a misery for others.
It came as police voiced concerns the town's night time economy was being endangered by people blowing their monthly wages on booze, leaving a trail of chaos in their wake.
However, the volunteer bobbies did not make it out for September pay day – and will instead begin their patrols at the end of this month.

A spokesman for the police said: "The intention is to start at the end of October. The specials did come out for a trial run in September but from now on will be focusing on pay days at the end of the month."
Problems associated with pay day include an increase in fighting and vandalism as well as people soiling the streets with vomit and urine.
Civic leaders welcomed the move to draft in the specials.
