Pensioner dies in Cheltenham town centre

AN ELDERLY man died this afternoon in Cheltenham town centre after suffering a cardiac arrest.

 Paramedics received a 999 call just before 1pm from a member of the public who said that a man in his seventies was struggling to breathe next to a bus stop in Pittville Street. 

While the caller was still on the phone the pensioner went into cardiac arrest. 

Paramedics in a rapid response vehicle were on the scene within minutes and tried to save the man's life.

They were joined by an ambulance crew but they were unable to resuscitate the man. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene at about 1.30pm. 

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious.
