A woman asked a man if she could borrow a mobile phone but once she had it she refused to give it back.
She was joined by another man and both walked to a white Land Rover at the back of the club.
Shortly after the incident a passerby told the 19-year-old victim the names of the people involved in the theft.
Police would now like that key witness to come forward and help the investigation.
The man who spoke to the victim, or anyone else with information, should call Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident 29 of September 23.
You can also give information anonymously by contacting the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org and you may receive a reward if someone is arrested and charged.
A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of theft in connection with the incident and has been bailed to attend Gloucester police station on October 15, pending further inquiries.
