Planning grumbles on the rise
ANGRY residents who have been left irate by planning issues on their doorstep have been complaining in their droves to Gloucestershire County Council.
The authority received 190 complaints on planning related matters in 2012.
That number is up slightly on the 187 it received in 2011.
However, the number of complaints planning officers have had to deal with has remained roughly the same over the past decade with an average of 190 submitted every year since 2000.

“Is the article correct in stating this is about Gloucester County Council? Should it not state Gloucester City Council?
Apart from matters concerning waste & minerals, the County Council is not involved with planning. Or were there sufficient waste / minerals applications in 2012 to warrant 190 complaints...???
For the bulk of planning complaints, surely the relevant Local Planning Authority (LPA) should be contacted, not the County Council. So Gloucester City, Tewkesbury Borough, Cheltenham Borough, etc. Or otherwise the Planning Inspectorate.”

“I wonder how many of these are from petty time-wasters. In my experience, when someone wants to improve their property with an entirely reasonable extension or adaptation, whilst the majority of neighbours will be perfectly happy with it there will always been one who complains, clutching at every straw possible to make an argument against it. Some people just don't like change and have too much time on their hands. In a recession, especially one as long and deep as this, people need the option of extending rather than moving. I only hope that the council use common sense and do not let one narrow-minded opinion stop perfectly reasonable developments from going ahead.”
