THE electricity network in Gloucester is set for a £5.5million investment.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) has announced a new initiative which will see it laying 10km of 33,000 volt cable between Brockworth and Castle Meads. Telecom ducts could be laid at the same time.

The project is due to start in October, with completion expected by April 2013.

WDP took over responsibility for the Midlands network in April 2011.
