Police descend on Prestbury as man barricades himself inside home
DRAMATIC scenes unfolded in a Cheltenham street on Monday night when a man barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to harm himself.
Police, firefighters and an ambulance rushed to New Barn Lane in Prestbury at around 6pm after receiving reports of the incident.
A police negotiator was also called to the address to try to persuade the man, aged 50, to leave his home.
With neighbours looking on and the road blocked off, officers attempted to convince the man to come outside.

Eventually, at around 6.50pm, the man left the property and was detained by police.
He has since been taken to hospital for treatment.
The road was closed while police responded to the incident but it has now been re-opened.
Neighbours were shocked by the sudden arrival of the emergency services.
One resident, who gave his name as Mr Sallis, said: "I'm born and bred here in Cheltenham, and when you watch the news you hear about these things in bigger cities, so to hear about news such as this in your own home is quite shocking."
Sally McGrath, 47, said: "Three or four police cars and an ambulance came down the road.
"We were worried because we knew nothing about what was going on."
