Police investigate alleged assault of cyclist in Gloucester

Police are investigating after a cyclist was assaulted in Gloucester.

The incident started at around 6.20pm yesterday evening as the cyclist was riding along Secunda Way towards Hempsted.

He was being followed by a silver Peugeot 307 and, as they both travelled into Hempsted Lane, there was a collision between the cyclist and the car.

The cyclist was knocked to the ground, and while lying on the ground was allegedly assaulted by the car driver.

Damage was also caused to the bike, which was stamped upon, before the driver made off at speed.

Officers have arrested a 33-year-old Gloucester man on suspicion of assault. He has been released on police bail until December pending further enquiries.

The cyclist - who is also 33 and from Gloucester - was not seriously injured, however was shaken up and his Cannondale bike was severely damaged.
