Police collared 13 drivers committing offences in just 45 minutes.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) apprehended the drivers during a mini operation in Quedgeley on Friday March 12.

The operation was conducted after local residents raised concerns about traffic offences with their council funded officer PC Fraser Mackie from the Gloucester South Safer Community Team.

Following the request from the community, PC Mackie took action. The RPU stationed themselves at the junction of Bristol Road and Elmore Lane and after less than an hour they had issued six fixed penalty tickets to drivers who were using their mobile phones and seven fixed penalty tickets to drivers who were not wearing their seatbelts.

Those caught using their mobile phones were also issued with three penalty points on their driving licence.

PC Mackie said: “I find it astonishing that in just 45 minutes the RPU spotted 13 drivers committing offences. “Using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seatbelt are both extremely dangerous to the driver and to other road users.

“I hope this acts as a warning to motorists that these offences will not go unpunished. We will be regularly repeating operations like this to ensure the message is being heard.”

“It turns out following investigations this morning that my neighbours car has a sworn declaration on it and therefore should not even be on the roads, and he has no insurance, what more can I say.

Reported to both the police now I know it has a sworn declaration and no insurance as well as DVLA, lets hope they catch up with him very soon”

“Thanks Amy didn't think of that first thing on Monday morning i'm ringing them because i'm sick of him taking the mickey and he uses the car more than 3 or 4 times a day. Not fair on the rest of us.

I will have the last laugh, sick of my insurance premiums going up because of all those uninusred drivers on the roads”

“Easy money for the Police less paperwork, again it is the motorist, they should be as quick to catch the criminals!! Not say we know who they are but cannot do anything unless there is a witness - thats because there is a lot more paperwork for this. Please leave the motoristed alone, and cash the criminals.”

“anon, re your neighbour with no tax - the DVLA have been given responsibilty to deal with untaxed vehicles by the Government. Go online and you can contact the DVLa directly with the registration and common locations of the vehicle - if it is not taxed and not SORNed they will take action. If it isn't prompt then repeat until they do.Hope this helps.”

“My neighbour has been driving around with no car tax for the last 2 months and has openly admitted to me he changes his car once he has been stopped more than 3 times by the police, he has small children in the back of the car no car seats. No doubt if he has no tax he has no insurance or MOT, how many more times do I have to give his registration to the police for them to take action. This is not fair on law abiding citizens like the rest of us that pay our road tax, mot and insurance, advice anyone please?”

“Hopefully the Police will now also mount a night time operation to catch another lot of inconsiderate drivers who use their fog-light when the road in perfectly clear, don't bother to dip their head-lights for on coming traffic and who have defective lights or badly adjusted lights. Some how I doubt it, as these days we appear to have a nine-to-five Police Force.”
