“Tim, we know that insurance can be taken out using false details - e.g. Graham Godwin - so that could be the explanation here.”

“Surely the time to appeal for witnesses is when the trail is still warm? Why is it that, time and time again, the police only ask for help weeks and even months after the event? I sometimes wonder if pride has something to do with it with a public appeal being thought of as something of a failure and something to be considered only as a last resort.”

“@FreeRadical1 It's insured at the moment according to the MIB so whoever has insured it should be spoken to, the old owner will have cancelled the insurance so it's the new keeper/owner!”

“Tim, I think that we can assume that the police have made enquiries and that there is no registered keeper. The car was probably sold to someone who gave a false name and address, so the last registered keeper is innocent. There are known to be loads of such cars on the road. The driver only gets caught if there is a spot-check. No insurance either, of course.”

“Given the registration number is confirmed (and does belong to a green Vauxhall, having done a vehicle enquiry check on the direct.gov website), it is a little curious that the police are seeking help nearly 2 months after the incident. The vehicle enquiry does at least confirm the car has valid tax, up to the end of this month.
The police must have already checked with DVLA for the registered keeper's details, and also with the motor insurance database. So perhaps these have drawn a blank - perhaps the car has no registered keeper (which is an offence, for starters), and no valid insurance??? Which might explain why the driver didn't stop...
An X-reg Astra is worth peanuts, so maybe the driver panicked and has disposed of the vehicle? Assuming it was their vehicle to start with...?
Leaving the scene of an accident is an offence, so makes you wonder how many other offences were being committed at the time.
Hope the injured driver in the other car has recovered from her injures, and also hope that the driver of the errant Astra is identified, to make sure they are dealt with accordingly.”
