A dangerous breed of dog has been seized by police at a property in Cheltenham.
Officers swooped on an address in Windrush Road in Whaddon this morning, arresting a 34-year-old man on suspicion of offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The dog, which is believed to be a breed prohibited under the act, was sedated and is now under police protection.
The man, who was also suspected of possessing cannabis, is currently helping police with their inquiries.
Roddy Gosden, inspector for Whaddon INA, said; "Keeping people safe from harm is at the heart of operations such as this and our priority throughout this investigation is to ensure the safety of the family living with the dog and the safety of the local community."

“This new test that this lousy Government is thinking of bringing in will do nothing to stop idiots with banned dogs.
They won't take the test, get a licence/insurance or get the dog chipped, so all the money from the sensible owners will be to pay for the few mindless morons.
And what will happen to them? Taken to court, given fine they can't pay, get another dog with the benefit money, and it's groundhog day all over.”

“Blimey Resident, generalise much!
I take it in the last bit of your rant your talking about staffys? Anyone who knows any normal person with a staffy knows that they are not a violet breed by nature.
It is the owners that are the problem not the breed. I think i'm right in saying that Ceaser Milans (the dog whisperer) dog that died recently (Daddy) is a band breed in this country! This dog helped rehablitate hundreds of dogs without violence. I think this just proves that with the right owner any breed can be a great dog.”

“It¿s the owners fault not the dog, they should look more carefully at letting people have these sort of dogs. Most don¿t work so they have time to train them with basic commands. The facts are that they train them to attack, than moan when they do.
They think some how having these breed of dogs, which most have spikes on their collars, like don¿t come near me or my dog will have you etc. Fact is they look stupid, and it would serve them right, if their dog turned on them. Most are young approx in their 20s usually wearing chav clothes.
In the USA they don¿t re home certain breeds of dogs due to they don¿t know their history, perhaps we over here should take the same view. As I noted not to long a go the animal shelter had quite a few of breeds that do get used for fighting, we all know the breeds may be the banned dogs list should get extended to add them”

“Castration is the answer, not the dog the owner”
