Pooled cash to improve Tewkesbury roads
COUNCILLORS in Tewkesbury have pooled their resources to improve roads and paths in the town. As part of the county council's new Highways Local policy of letting its members have £10,000 each for the purpose, Conservative Vernon Smith and independent Mike Sztymiak combined their cash. That led to a footpath in Kingston Road, Northway, being completely resurfaced. It was the first of a number of highway improvements that will take place in Tewkesbury between now and the end of April, including improving lighting near a bus stop in Northway Lane. Mr Smith said: "The Highways Local scheme builds on a successful scheme from last year - called Highways, Your Way - for parishes. This showed that working more closely with parish and town councils and local communities works." Mr Sztymiak said: "Although not vast, this pot of money will enable us to get on with works that are important to people but never seem to get done. Often it's these small things that bring the most benefit to local residents."
