Pop In cafe in Gloucester becomes Oasis Cafe with new owner
IAN Spencer has taken the reins at an historic Gloucester cafe as he looks to capitalise on the success of the linkages scheme.
The former Pop In cafe, in Southgate Street, now known as the Oasis Cafe, was taken over by Mr Spencer earlier this month.

Despite having no previous experience in the catering industry, he is confident of success. He said: "This is completely new to me, but I'm really excited about it.
"We are in a great location and we are here to serve up a good old breakfast to people.

"The cafe itself has been in the city for 45 years, which is pretty impressive."
Before following his heart into this new venture, Mr Spencer cooked in a care home, and before that he did a number of different jobs. He has lived in the city for 25 years but is originally from Sussex.
The cafe is open from Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 5pm.

“I wish Ian Spencer good luck. However, isn't 8.30am a bit late to open if you're looking to cash in on the breakfast trade? I'm not an early riser myself, but if people start work at 8.30 or 9.00am, they'd be looking to have breakfast much earlier than that. 8.30am will suit shoppers, but there are numerous other similar cafes open at that time. I hope that there is enough passing trade for everyone.”

“Good to see an honest independent coffee shop rather than the chain coffee shops selling frothy milk at £2.50+ a cup that have moved in to the city centre, one of which we NOW know doesn't pay corporation tax in the UK by buying it's coffee beans in Switzerland, paying royalties to use it's own logo to another part of it's business outside the UK.... not going in THAT one anymore.
