Popular curry house fined for food hygiene breaches
A popular Indian restaurant in Newent has been fined £1,650 after inspectors found food hygiene errors.
Newent Tandoori, in Broad Street, had dirt and debris on the kitchen floor.

Kitchen equipment and utensils were also dirty, and the owners had failed to implement a plan for food safety.
The owner Jamal Uddin appeared at Gloucester Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to four offences under the Food Hygiene Regulations Act.
Environmental health officers from the Forest of Dean District Council inspected the curry house last May and gave the venue seven food hygiene tasks to be carried out.
The court heard how a follow-up visit found he had failed to comply with one notice.
He was fined £1,650 for the offence and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15, as well as £500 in costs to the district council.
Roger Garbett, environmental services manger said: “We provided Mr Uddin with advice, the opportunity to improve and sufficient time to make improvements and implement a robust food safety management system.
“However, during an arranged return visit it became clear that he had failed to do so.
“Mr Uddin failed to carry out the necessary steps to protect public health.”
The tandoori still has a three star ‘scores on the doors’ rating and inspectors said the hygiene at the premises do now comply with the regulations.
Mr Garbett said: “In the few cases where a business repeatedly fails to meet the basic legal requirements, more formal action is likely to result to ensure the public is protected.”
There is now a website up and running which scores restaurants on hygiene.

Mr Uddin was unavailable to comment.

“I don't believe any of that crop in the paper, for starter the photo is not taken from the Kitchen of Newent Tandoori,
infect if you look closely it is under neath wheelie Bin outside, because the floor is concreted not tile, all commercial kitchen flooring must have Tile or Liner for easy cleaning, so it can't be the kitchen.
because we go to the the Tandoori Every week I see inside the Kitchen every time and all ways looks clean.
I went this Saturday Evening and looked even more closely, very clean, well uniformed staff.
The food was fantastic as before, the place was packed as before, and still the best.
the paper exaggerated the story so people will buy their papers more.
if for last 17 years nobody been ill, or complained to the council ,how can suddenly it'll be bad.
if you been a regular to the Tandoori and you never had problem since last MAY or before, do you think you'll have now?
if any thing they will be more careful now.
I say if any one still has any doubt go and check it for your self
don't believe any of the none sense the paper wrote.”

from the picture you can see fresh Green chlli, Ginger,Onion skin, uncooked rice it can't be on the floor for long ,
the photo can't be in the kitchen because there is no tile on the floor.
when I saw the picture and the headline,
it did worry me,but after close examination its not so bad as its seem. knowing the place and the staff I am not bothered. I been enjoying all these years no problem, this will make the management more careful .in the future.
