Mr Graham said: "It was good to meet the 14 members of staff who are all happy to work overtime in the peak season to help customers in the run-up to Christmas.

"I was also told by the staff how discounts on stamps for people on certain categories of benefits are helping to keep down the cost of Christmas where possible."

Readers are reminded that the last posting date in time for Christmas is December 20 for first class and December 18 for second class.

“Richard Burton . I believe those on Pension Credit, ESA and Incapacity benefit can get up to 36 first or second class stamps at last year;s prices .

Most people ?I know are cutting down on posting cards this year because of cost.....sad really, because a lot of people live alone and an actual Christmas card is more tactile than an e-card . Sign of the times .”

“I don't think anyone has issues posting, I think the issue is collecting, for example Cheltenham's collection office is poorly designed for people to stop (a layby with 3 car spaces in it but double yellow lines) p.s. that is usually occupied by about 8 british gas vans in the morning, and then the service is so slow that the queue tails back...... something needs to be done to make that service faster.”

“Having taken a straw poll of some of my friends I have found that we are all going through our Christmas card list and deleting people that we have previously sent cards to but would probably not recognise if we passed them in the street. We will then hand-deliver as many cards as possible, leaving a depleted number to post. The Post Office will then lose expected revenue, but if they sold the special Christmas stamps at a lower price than ordinary first and second class stamps more people would send more cards, thus increasing revenue..”

“It would be nice to know who is able to get cheaper stamps. The way i understand is that people on Job seekers Allowance don't count. Who does then?. It would be fairer if the discount applied to all after all it is Christmas.”
