Post Office safe from closure, Conservative government assures Stroud MP Neil Carmichael.
RURAL post offices are supported by the Government, an MP said as he began a tour of local branches.
Conservative MP for Stroud Neil Carmichael said he was reassured after receiving a commitment from House of Commons leader Andrew Lansley that there would not be a repeat of the closure programme seen under the previous Labour government.
"The post office is a vital part of communities and has long provided a platform for essential and everyday services," said Mr Carmichael, on a visit to the Newtown Post Office in Sharpness.
"I am dedicated to ensuring local residents can easily access the services they need," he said.
