Pothole-ridden roads in Hucclecote are set for a revamp after a campaign from residents and councillors.

Highways chiefs have announced it will carry out full resurfacing work in Elmgrove Road, Parkwood Crescent, Lynton Road and Chosen Way in the near future.

The move has been welcomed by elected officials and residents, who have been fighting for some time to have the work carried out.

Gloucestershire County Councillor Bill Crowther (Lib Dem, Hucclecote), said: “I attended a meeting in November 2009 with Gloucestershire Highways to discuss issues concerning roads and footpaths.

“I raised again the matter of the continuing lack of the maintenance on our local roads and footpaths.

“We have been pressing Gloucestershire Highways to take action to resurface some of our roads in Hucclecote and Abbeymead that need urgent attention.

“As a result I was advised that they have now scheduled in 2010/2011 to resurface Elmgrove Road, Parkwood Crescent, Lynton Road and Chosen Way.”

Kingscroft Road is also due to be done in the same time frame.

Ken Dobson lives in Parkwood Crescent with his wife Jo, who is disabled and relies on his driving to get her everywhere.

He said: “I am glad they’re going to do it, but it should’ve been done three years ago. The trouble is around here, there was concrete laid down before the asphalt went on top, so that’s what’s been shifting and causing the problems.”

A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Highways said: “We are pleased to have scheduled these resurfacing works, to bring Elm Grove Road, Parkwood Crescent, Linton Road and Chosen Way up to a high standard.”

The news comes after Gloucestershire Highways bosses set the cost of the damage caused to county roads in the recent cold snap at around £5million.
