PERSONAL memories of late actor Clive Dunn have been shared by the county based leader of the Dad's Army Appreciation Society.

Sitcom star Dunn, best known for his role as Lance Corporal Jones in the hit TV series, was a "brilliant comedy actor" said Tony Pritchard from Stroud.

Dunn died aged 92 at his home in Portugal earlier this week following a short illness.

"He was a born entertainer. I met him many times and he could chat about anything. There was always a good story to tell," said Mr Pritchard, 61, from King's Stanley.

"He came to about four of our major conventions. We have a permanent museum display in Bressingham in Norfolk where the outside scenes were filmed and Clive came to open it. He was such a likeable person in his own right and brought so much enjoyment to so many people through his acting. It is always sad when somebody dies but at 92 you can't say it was unexpected."

Mr Pritchard, retired head of supplies for Gloucestershire Police, added: "He did a lot of the stunts for Dad's Army himself. He was quite athletic.

"Although he dressed as a man of 70 he was only 40 when he did the series."
