PRINCE Charles paid a visit to the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars (RGH) Squadron, based in Cirencester, as they held their annual Bir el Gubi Service at Badminton Church.

The service commemorates the Battle of Bir el Gubi on November 19, 1941, in Libya, when the 2nd RGH suffered severe losses against Rommell's tanks in the lead up to El Alamein.

Prince Charles attended the service and met Bir el Gubi veterans as well as soldiers from the current squadron, who have just returned from Afghanistan.

Dame Janet Trotter, Lord-Lieutenant for Gloucestershire, also attended the service along with the Duke of Beaufort, the president of the Hussars Yeomanry Association.

The Hussars was first raised in 1795 and the squadron is currently recruiting as part of the expansion of the Army Reserve.
