Vandalism, littering and noise appear to have been beaten at an anti-social behaviour hotspot in Brockworth.

Residents living in the Pound Farm area said they were being plagued by hoards of anti-social yobs who left litter, vandalised equipment and made noise earlier this year.

But after police in the area stepped up patrols and highlighted the problem as a priority this autumn, officers have reported an improvement.

Sue Helliwell, of nearby Green Way, said: "It's certainly been quieter around here.

"We used to get rowdies running up and down the streets, but it has got better.

"We used to have problems with broken wing mirrors as well, but there hasn't been any car damage recently."

Jim Hunt, chairman of Brockworth Parish Council, said: "The vandalism problems in the area have certainly improved, and I hope it continues.

"We certainly haven't had any complaints from people living nearby, and the police have certainly been better about patrolling the area."

PC Mark Peart, from the Cheltenham Road East Safer Community Team, said: "Officers from the team regularly patrol the area at various times of the day and night.

"Fortunately officers are yet to come across any anti-social behaviour or any litter left as a result of anyone congregating in the park.

"Whilst this remains a priority for the team we will continue to carry out the patrols, but there does not seem to be an issue with anti social behaviour in the area at this time.

"Anyone who does have any concerns or any relevant information that would assist us should contact police on 0845 090 1234 and ask to speak to the Cheltenham Road East Safer Community Team."

Gloucestershire county councillor Mike Collins (Lib Dem, Brockworth), said: "I think that to have any positive news on crime figures is very good for the area.

"I would always encourage those residents who see anti-social behaviour going on to report it to police so it can be sorted out."

“They have moved to the community centre...thats got to be a good thing, surely?! And the library...I do hope they have not taken ALL the Shakespeare collection.

Seriously, there is a youth centre at the back of the commnuity centre, if they are going there that is where they should be.

    Well done Peart and co!”

“Rowdies? Rowdies like Baggins with his Blackthorn, I'll bet - these city folks coming to our sleepy parks and bringing their rowdy ways have a lot to answer for.”
