Protests against Stroud homes plan
AROUND 50 protestors gathered in Stroud yesterday when Lioncourt Homes visited the town to share its proposal for 100 homes on Rodborough Fields.
The demonstration outside the Imperial Hotel followed a public meeting on Sunday, where more than 200 people packed Rodborough Pavilion to find out more about the plan.

Lioncourt has confirmed it will submit a planning application to Stroud District Council in the spring.
It hopes to be granted permission for around 100 homes on a 3.3 hectare site on land between Arundel Drive and Dr Newton's Way.

Traffic access to the development would be from a new link from Dr Newton's Way over the Frome.
Representatives of Lioncourt met with district councillors and representatives of community groups to discuss their plan.
Andy Faizey, strategic land director for Lioncourt Homes said: "This is a suitable and very sustainable location for new housing.
"The land we are proposing to develop is not in the floodplain, it lies outside the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) where development is restricted and it is close to Stroud town centre and all its amenities. We will be submitting a planning application in the spring of next year."
Residents from Stroud and Rodborough voiced their opposition at the packed public meeting of the Rodborough Fields Preservation Group.
They backed a motion calling for the site to remain "an area of natural beauty, a green lung and a wildlife corridor."
District councillor Martin Whiteside was at the protest. "What is so important about Stroud is the green spaces between the settlements and protecting these is a priority. Rodborough Fields is a key green space," he said.
"As a district, we have enough housing land available. Permission has been granted for housing supply for the next six years, but developers are not building on it, because they are always looking for profits and to build their land bank, rather than building housing for local people at affordable prices."

“Does this mean Stroud District Council have now run out of areas in Gloucester to use to achieve their own local new housing government target? - they only seem to approve new build housing projects if it's in Gloucester - like Coopers Edge.”
