A PROUD mum and music student from Gloucester has been inspired into opening up a new social club for babies in Abbeydale.

Jayne Brown, 28, the mother of three-year-old Sophie, is launching her own mum and toddler club.

She says the area lacks a meeting place for new mothers to bond and swap experiences, and is starting up a 'Music for Little People' group at Abbeydale Community Centre in Glevum Way.

The group will introduce babies to musical instruments and allow mothers to make new friends.

She said: "I have just had a baby and have been looking for something to do that felt worthwhile and where I could spend quality and productive time with her along with something that would utilise my music workshop knowledge gained from my degree.

"I am holding a free session of the group this Friday at the Abbeydale Community Centre."

Jayne has a degree in music and English from Manchester Metropolitan University. Her main instrument is the clarinet and she also plays the saxophone.

She is currently studying for a diploma with the Associated Board of the Royal College of Music.

She ran the first of her free taster sessions at the community centre on Friday last week.

She said: "It went brilliantly. I set up a Facebook group and have had lots of responses from it. About 20 people came along and we did lots of singing with actions, explored instruments, and explored the children's creativity through music which was really good."

The sessions are open to parents and children up to the age of five.

Music for Little People is a national organisation that opens up local branches as parents come forward.

For further information on the organisation and where to find their classes, visit www.musicfor littlepeople.co.uk. Alternatively, mums can get in touch with Jayne by calling 01452 561034 or by going along to the free taster session.
