Pub bosses toast to playing a starring role in industry bible
BOSSES of the Gloucester Old Spot are celebrating being included and praised in the pub industry's bible.
Owner Simon Daws, right, is delighted that the pub, near Coombe Hill, has been included in the 2013 edition of the Good Pub Guide and awarded a star in recognition of its outstanding quality. The guide singled out the pub for special praise, saying: "The country local comes of age – a model for today's country pubs."

Simon, who also owns the Royal Oak in Prestbury, said: "As if having both our pubs recognised as main entries in the guide was not enough, getting a starred entry for the Old Spot after just two years of taking it over is amazing.
"You cannot pay to enter what is our industry bible. Entries are based on the feedback provided from the readership, people who truly love pubs."

He added that being praised in the guide was recognition for the dedicated team running the pub.
"These are tough times for the pub trade and all good news stories give trade a boost.
"The praise heaped on us by the guide endorses our decision to restore the pub with a light-touch approach, and the timeless appeal and heritage of the building is one of its main features," he added.

“Feel free to make your own Christian dictionary then, with new and crazy definitions of bible, marriage and anything else.
If we're being offended, i'm offended at your priests and bishops hiding sexual abuse of minors for the last 40 years!”

“I object to your use of the word 'Bible'. Why not call it an 'Industry Koran'? Oh, you wouldn't dare?”
