Public toilets in Gloucester to close
A DECISION to close some of the city's public toilets has been agreed.
Gloucester City Council's cabinet approved the decision to close public toilets in Glenville Parade, St John's Lane, Berkeley Street, and Kings Square – while temporarily maintaining a disabled toilet service at Kings Square.
The cabinet also decided to roll out the community toilet scheme, which was first discussed in 2008.
A number of shops and businesses will allow use of their toilets as community facilities.
These businesses will receive around £600 in recognition of the additional maintenance required.
The council also agreed to look into ensuring at least one public convenience is within the main shopping area of Gloucester, in addition to the facility at the bus station, providing a public convenience with an appropriate "charge to use" if necessary, and alternative ways of providing the public toilets.
Councillor Steve Morgan said the scheme was something the council had been working on for quite some time.
He said the council would be constantly reviewing the scheme, adding: "Our officers will be visiting the community toilets on a frequent basis, a daily basis preferably. And we are still providing a number of public conveniences in the city."
These include toilets in Westgate Street Car Park, at Robinswood Hill, St Oswald's Road, Gloucester Bus Station and Gloucester Park.

“Couldn't the ''fines'' revenue for those using Llanthiny Bridge illegally fund a full time caretaker in the King's Square toilets ?”

“I agree with Jas. Why would anyone want to use, let alone allow their children to us, filthy public toilets, often littered with drug paraphernalia, vandalised, and frequented by perverts, when clean well-maintained toilets are freely available in the shops and bars? Bring on the scheme I say.”
