FOUR university students have been promoting a healthier lifestyle with a hop, skip, and jump.

Debbie Mitchell, Wendy Tomlinson, Melanie Sanders and Theresa Threadgill were given the brief to organise a community event as part of their education studies degree at Gloucestershire University.

They decided to put together a sponsored skip event at Calton Junior School, in Calton Road, on Saturday.

"It was really good fun," said Debbie, 42, from Abbeymead. "As well as organising a community project we wanted to promote a healthy lifestyle, hence why the British Heart Foundation got involved. We were giving out leaflets to people too."

Around 50 parents, pupils and members of the community took part. The children were sponsored to take part in the skipping event, and the total amount raised is still being calculated.
