Purchase seeking third World gold in Lucerne
ZAC Purchase will be seeking a third World Cup gold medal when he rejoins race partner Mark Hunter in Switzerland this weekend.
Purchase, who won gold with Hunter in the lightweight men's double in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, has won in the last two World Cup stages this year.
His first gold was from racing solo in Bled, Slovenia, in May due to Hunter's return being delayed by injury.
The second was won last month in Munich, Germany, when Purchase and Hunter raced competitively together for the first time since Beijing.
Nailsworth's Pete Reed and partner Andrew Triggs Hodge will get another chance to take on their New Zealand rivals in Lucerne.
Having lost to the Kiwis at the first two World Cup races, as well as at the recent Henley Royal Regatta, the duo will be keen to end the World Cup season with a victory.
Gloucester's Natasha Page has been named in the women's eight for Lucerne.
At the first two world cup events she won a gold with the eight in Bled and a silver in Munich.
Beth Rodford, also from Gloucester, won silver with the women's quadruple scull in Munich after taking gold in Bled.
In Lucerne she will race in both the quad and the double scull with Annabel Vernon.
Cheltenham's Alex Gregory will compete in the men's four in Lucerne and will be looking to help his reigning world champion crew improve on the bronze they won in Munich.
The World Cup series is a series of three races.
The series started in Bled in May, continued in Munich last month and finishes in Lucerne from Friday to Sunday.
The World Championship will be held in Lake Karapiro in New Zealand from October 31 to November 7.
