A stolen motorbike propped up next to the substation caused it to catch fire.
Police are appealing for information about the incident.
A spokesman for police said: “A fire investigation has deemed the cause of the moped fire to be suspicious and officers are now urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area or with information about the case to call 101, quoting incident 46 of March 14.”

“Lets get the facts straight! this is a major incident with the transformer and switchgear totally destroyed not to mention the building. I counted around 6 electrical engineering vans at the site so am pretty sure everything is being done. Stop winging and accept that incidents like this can and do happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“The power came back on at dead on 1 pm.
A big pat on the back for the men and women who worked hard to get things working.
By the way thanks TiG, for keeping the locals informed.....about the happenings in Rome.”

“TiG, any chance of an update? Instead of posting stories about the Vatican, how about chasing the electric people and keep your local readers informed.”

“Just called the power company for an update.
They're describing it as a serious fault and having been past there that's a decent description.
They've pushed back the time we can expect power to 3pm and I'll be both impressed and surprised if they hit that target.”
