Queen sends best wishes to Gloucester pensioner
WHEN Mary Jones wrote to the Queen to congratulate her on the news that William and Kate would be having a baby she didn't expect a response.
But the 72-year-old from Orchard Park, in Twigworth, was bowled over when a letter with the 'ER' stamp dropped through her letterbox.
Mrs Jones, who often writes contributions for The Citizen's weekend poetry section, said: "I couldn't believe my eyes. I was so excited that I ripped open the envelope. I wish I hadn't now but I just couldn't believe I'd got a response.
"William and Kate are a lovely couple and they've captured our imagination so I thought I would write in and wish them all a good Christmas after their good news.

"But I know they receive a lot of letters so I wasn't expecting a response."
The letter said: "Your kind message of Christmas greetings to The Queen and other members of her family was much appreciated, and Her Majesty sends her best wishes to you for the New Year."
