Raise a pint of cider
BACK by popular demand, West Country favourites The Wurzels return to Stroud to head up a cider festival.
It is very apt considering the title of two of their best-known songs – Drink Up Thy Zider and I Am A Cider Drinker – not to mention their Somerset roots.
With chart-toppers including Combine Harvester, One For The Bristol City and Don't Tell I, Tell 'Ee, The Wurzels have been signed to label heavyweights Columbia and EMI.
And they still continue to play more than 100 sellout shows every year, most notably festivals such as Bestival, Glastonbury and Guilfest.

This bunch of haystack-headed, not-quite-so-young lads have long paved the way for Scrumpy 'n' Western – a genre packed full of double entendre, mainstream parody and a comical folk style. The Wurzels' shows are a paragon of entertainment – full of fun, showmanship, outstanding music and, of course, the perfect accompaniment to cider drinking.
They are joined by Dave Sharp, co-founder of The Alarm, who often opened for U2 and Bob Dylan. Dave has since built an illustrious solo career.
Having performed and recorded both here and in the US, he is a great singer-songwriter.
Tickets cost £13 from 01453 760900.
