Ram raider David Benyon arrested in Cheltenham swoop
A ram raider from Cheltenham who went on the run rather than face up to a seven-year jail term has been arrested in a dramatic police swoop.
David Benyon, of Compton Road in Cheltenham, absconded from Worcester Crown Court while on bail the day before he was convicted for conspiracy to burgle on July 24 last year.

He was sentenced in his absence on August 20 to seven years in prison.
At just before 9am on Thursday morning Gloucestershire Police swooped on a property at Monkscroft Villas, Princess Elizabeth Way, and found Benyon. It was six months to the day after his conviction.
Benyon was arrested and transported to Worcester Crown Court where a judge sentenced him to his original seven years in prison plus a further four months for breaching the Bail Act.
Three other people arrested at the Cheltenham address have since been charged with offences.
A 44-year-old woman was charged with obstructing an officer in the execution of their duty and a 46-year-old man was charged with assaulting a police officer.
A 16-year-old boy was also charged with assisting an escaped prisoner and assaulting a police constable. They have been bailed to appear in front of Cheltenham Magistrates on February 21.

“So he was arrested 6 months after escaping justice - therefore 6 months freedom. He then receives a 4 month additional sentence for going on the run - meaning he is actually 2 months up on the deal.”

“I guess he was sleeping in the caravan that appeared on their driveway months ago.
Can someone from the Cheltenham Borough Homes get rid of the family please.
They were raided last year, at least once, possibly twice, due to drugs. And now they've been caught harbouring a convicted and wanted person, they must be well within the breaches of their tenancy and therefore you would have easy grounds to evict them. Don't leave it for months before you do anything.
They're a waste of space and there's always trouble due to them.”

“So....................He went on the run to escape the 7 year jail term and when he is eventually caught, the jail term is extended by a whole 4 months (which we all know that he won't serve anyway).
Well that's certainly going to dissuade anyone else from absconding isn't it?”
