Red Cross volunteers to join firefighters to offer victims emotional support
EMOTIONAL support will be on hand for victims of house fires in Gloucestershire thanks to a new addition to the fire and rescue fleet.
The British Red Cross' Fire and Emergency Support Service (FESS) vehicle will be permanently based at the Gloucester South Fire Station in Tuffley. It will be called upon by fire control when crews are called out to attend fires at homes or flooding incidents involving people.

on call: Front; Felicity Hudd, British Red Cross service manager, and Crew Commander for Blue Watch, Dean Evans, with their colleagues.
Chief Fire Officer Jon Hall said: "This is a great opportunity to work with volunteers who are able to give the emotional support residents sometimes need, often while we are still firefighting. I hope this new alliance goes from strength to strength."
A team of Red Cross volunteers will be on hand to respond to such incidents from 5pm to 7am in the week and 24 hours a day at the weekend, offering practical help, advice and comfort to residents where needed. More volunteers are currently being sought to provide a 24/7 service.
