Regular driver eye exams call
DEMANDS for eye tests for drivers every two years are being backed by a Cheltenham optician.
Melanie Brackstone, store director at Specsavers in the town, is also supporting a call to allow police to ban unfit drivers on the spot.
It follows the death of teenager Cassie McCord, who was run over by 87-year-old Colin Horsfall three days after he failed a roadside eye test.
Cassie's mother Jackie, has collected 10,000 names on a petition and is lobbying the Government to introduce Cassie's law.
Melanie said: "We would urge the Government to support Cassie's law and our own call for compulsory eye examinations for drivers at least every two years."

“"DEMANDS for eye tests for drivers every two years are being backed by a Cheltenham optician." Translation: How can some opticians milk more money out of the over-taxed drivers?”

“Another tax on road drivers.
People would know if they had a problem with their eye sight as they would have problems reading road signs, hang on a second they don't pay attention to the restrictions in Southgate Street.
I say ban all Déjà vu suffers as well!”

“some of the comments make me sick.....
A young life was taken by a man who 3 days prior to this accident failed a roadside sight test.!! If it was YOUR CHILD, you would be calling for a law to make sure all drivers have a sight test every 2yrs.
Sigh tests are actually FREE if you are over 60
I strongly agree with the article & the petition”

“Aren't sight tests free for over 60s? A poor girls life has been lost due to a driver having poor eyesight. This could have been avoided!!! Aren't any of you thinking about the poor family who has lost their child! I completely agree with the article and the petition”

“It's all about the money, money, money...Nothing to do with the need for eye tests. Just a shameless plug for eye shop mentioned.”

“Perhaps Mr Colin Horsfall should have gone to Specsavers?
I'll get my coat.”
