Bishops Cleeve Train Station was widely used by local people but due to the low number of residents who lived nearby (around 800 in 1950), it was later closed.

But today with Bishops Cleeve and surrounding areas having an approximate population of 20,000 and more developments to be constructed to the North of the so called 'village', questions have been raised about why the old Bishops Cleeve train station hasn't been reopened.

The station could possibly be given the green-light once Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railways (G-WR) have considered it as a financial benefit. If it was ever opened though this would mean possibly extra housing developments in that area.

The residents opinions on reopening the train station are positive as it would bring back a part of Bishops Cleeve history, it would also improve transport to and from Cheltenham and Stratford Upon Avon and may increase house prices in the area (this may be bad or good depending on your perspective).

Some however were concerned it may cause increases in noise pollution and as stated above the possible lure of even more housing developers to the area.

There is no mention from the council for it to be reopened, but once G-WR believe it is a financial benefit there is most likely to be a certain chance of itsrevival.

I would like to see your views below, to see whether you believe it should be reopened

“Ah ok, that station isn't on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire railway, that is on the Birmingham - Gloucester Mainline.

Now we are talking about a different station it does change my perspective though. A station there *could* provide direct services to Cheltenham, Gloucester, Worcester, Birmingham, Bristol, Bath, Newport and Cardiff, so it would certainly be beneficial and as you say could lead to an increase in housing to the west of Bishops Cleeve.

I say 'could' because I would see a station being built there as unlikely.

Ashchurch just up the road is still struggling to get a decent timetable and that has been running for 15 years now. First Great Western and Cross Country quote that it costs £400 to stop at a station and so it will be hard for them to justify the extra stop. Additionally the Bishops Cleeve to Cheltenham Bus also goes to Cheltenham railway station, and I could also see the Bishops Cleeve - Tewkesbury bus being re routed via Ashchurch should the retail park being opened.

I'm very much pro railway though, and very much think that the closing of all our stations and lines was a terrible decision. I am sure that if the station was still on Stoke Road it would be well used, but it will take a lot to persuade the people that can make it happen that it would be well used if it were rebuilt now.”

    “just regarding 'dontyaknow'

there was a train station on stoke road to the west of bishops cleeve and there was also another on station road as you mentioned, the train station i am mentioning is before you enter stoke orchard from Bishops Cleeve. But i do see your point.”

“I'll comment on this one, as I assume you didn't mean Stoke Road which is on the Birmingham - Gloucester Line, where as the old Bishops Cleeve Station was on Station Road in Bishops Cleeve.

in all honesty, I don't think it would affect the area much. Trains already pass through so there will be no extra noise and with no disrespect intended, the G & W line (which only goes as far north as Toddington and is unlikely to reach Stratford for many years, if at all) is largely aimed at tourists and Bishops Cleeve doesn't really have a lot to pull them in, so I couldn't see G & W who are short on cash wanting to build it at this time.”
