Residents association set up in Gloucester
A new association has been formed at the Kingsway estate in Quedgeley to help residents achieve new goals.
Ten residents have taken up roles on the committee following a meeting held last month.
-

It hopes to improve life for residents in Gloucester's newest estate.
The group will be chaired by Barry Kirby, with Kimberley Poppitt elected as secretary.
The rest of the committee will be made up of Clive Barton, Mark Spooner, Steve Martin, Morwenna Grindle, David Clough, Stephen Gurd, Tracey Hodgson and Sarah Jones.
The association has set itself five key areas to focus on -
■ To be instrumental in promoting the local community.
■ To hold local events to promote a sense of community spirit and offer opportunities for local people to meet.
■ To present a "united front" to the press and promote some positive publicity to redress the balance following the recent negative press coverage.
■ To present a focussed approach to the site's developers over the future plans for the area, including the building of shops.
■ To liaise with local government, including Quedgeley Parish Council and Gloucester City Council.
An initial attempt to form a committee last year failed, but the group is confident the new association will prove a success.
Barry Kirby said: "The meeting we organised went very well and we had a lot of interested people turn up.
"As an outcome I have been able to form a new, more robust, committee and aim to progress things over the coming weeks.
"I think as the estate is growing, the interest is becoming greater."

“What is so silly about forming the residents association V, Gloucester? This is going to bring so many positive aspects to the village! We know kingsway is still a development (in certain places) but many people have lived here for 4 years now and why not start building a community!? We're not moaning....we're wanting to invest time & effort to make Kingsway a lovely place to live for now and the future! With regards to your comment about using quedgeley facilities - why should we walk to Quedgeley and back with bags of shopping? Plus don't you think Tesco's is jam packed already?! Not only is Tesco's a nightmare to walk around I can't even sign up to my local doctors!! Once we have enough residents living here these facilities will be added!”

“Silly? Not to want a community spirit? What a strange comment! I would love to get to know more people in the area, it is where my family live! Without a community, we are just a load of houses! Is anyone else willing to put time and effort into chairing the association? Mr Kirby is running it as noone else has stepped forward and he feels it is something really important. Maybe see you at the next meeting?!”

“Im sorry to say but i watch this over the last year of so,,, and think it silly. Mr Kirby started with the parish council the first group which did go anywhere. now it started again... Kingsway iis part of Quedgeley and Quedgeley has shop, post office etc etc .... Kingsway hasnt got a way around it so it is easy to cross the road and use Quedgeley ... Is Mr Kirby going to have time as chairman as he didnt have last time... and Kingsway is still a development ... let it finish before moaning about it ...”
