Residents stamping out yobs
RESIDENTS who formed a crime-fighting action group have said it is already paying dividends.
People living in Oaklands Park, Podsmead were devastated after vandals left a trail of destruction at Easter. But instead of allowing the yobs to beat them, they formed an action group.

Members of the Oaklands Park Residents Association have been going out on 4am walks to check for bad behaviour and working closely with the police.
Now they have met representatives from Gloucestershire County Council, which is looking at installing gates to stop vehicles from entering the park.
Jennie Dallimore, association chairwoman, said: "The Neighbourhood Watch scheme is having an effect. Residents are communicating and making each other aware of any little problems on the estate.
"Everyone is helping each other and it's creating a real community spirit."
"People are still taking regular walks around the estate early in the morning and reporting incidents to the police if necessary."
There is also the possibility of gates being installed to stop vehicles gaining access to the Blackbridge playing fields which will help curb some of the anti-social behaviour.
However, the association wants to focus more on giving young people something to do.
Jennie, said: "To be honest there isn't a lot for the young people to do."
"We've already started a football team, with residents digging deep to supply them with kit."
The association will also be carrying out a litter pick around the area on Sunday June 7, with support coming from a number of local organisations
Jennie, added: "Pupils from Crypt School will be helping as will representatives from the county and city council. A local sandwich shop is providing food and bottled water and the Duke of Beaufort pub is letting us use their facilities."
The association will be officially launched at an event at Widden Rugby Club on Saturday June 20.
Stephen Fearnside, asset management officer, said: "Officers have met with and will continue working closely with the residents association to identify and carry out repairs that will assist in their efforts to improve their local environment and to reduce anti social behaviour."
