A MUDDY road in Brockworth has been cleaned up after a campaign by angry residents.

Gloucestershire Highways has cleaned the mud off the road in Green Street. The news comes after the Echo highlighted the issue last week.

The clean-up has been warmly welcomed by residents, but they say only half of the battle is won, and mud will soon build up again if drivers keep mounting the grass verge at the side of the road.

Winifred Jones, who lives in Green Street, said: "They have swept the road so it is clear, which is good.

"But they haven't cleared the mud out of the drains, which will cause a problem if we have a lot of rainfall.

"Also, this is going to keep happening, because people will keep driving over the bank."

She said the problem was down to drivers being inconsiderate and impatient.

Mrs Jones added: "No one ever seems to wait around these days. When we are turning into our place we get people zooming past. They can't just wait two minutes for you to get out of the way, and if they have to mount the bank, they will."

Highways bosses have vowed to keep looking at the situation.

John Kay, stakeholder manager for Gloucestershire Highways, said: "I'm glad we could help with this situation and am pleased Mrs Jones is satisfied with the outcome.

"We will keep an eye on it in future and arrange to get it cleared should it become hazardous again."
