Bringing football home to Gloucester is the goal for the city's MP, Parmjit Dhanda.

"In 2009 we saw some real progress for our local football team," he said.

"Now I want to see that go even further. Gloucester City was forced to leave its ground after the floods two years ago and they have not played a game at home since.

"It would be brilliant if that could come to an end in 2010. I want to see them come home to Gloucester.

"Seeing the Tigers on home turf again is my resolution."

Ensuring the Queen continues to enjoy her visits to Gloucestershire is the focus for the county's Lord Lieutenant, Henry Elwes.

"I hope to remain in my role and continue to perform it to the best of my ability," Sir Henry said.

"I am very proud to represent Gloucestershire in the way I do.

"I would also like to see more recognition for the volunteers who keep everything ticking over.

"They really are the lifeblood of our county and everywhere else and they deserve more praise for the work they do."

Laurence Robertson, Conservative MP for Tewkesbury, said: "I don't make any personal resolutions as I've always given them up by January 2.

"Politically, I just hope we can get some more honest money in the economy.

"It's all borrowed money and the banks are all propped up.

"I hope we can return to a more buoyant economy – a lot of people fear we might not have seen the worst yet and a lot of businesses are very apprehensive – I hope we've turned a corner.

"I'll also try my best to strengthen the Floods and Water Management Bill, which comes to the Commons in January, so it has a bigger impact locally.

"I just want to keep doing my best in my job and hope I continue to be blessed with lots of good health and energy to do it."

Paul James, Gloucester City Council leader, said he wants to see the city's regeneration pick up speed.

"I think we want to keep the momentum behind the scheme and really push it through," he said.

"We will see the linkages project start early in the new year and hopefully we will see progress on the Greyfriars scheme as well.

"There is lots of stuff going on around the city and we just want to see it all in place as soon as possible.

"That would be my hope for the new year."

Gloscat's principal Greg Smith said he wanted to continue driving the college forward.

"Raising standards and aiming for better things is always a goal for us," he said.

"I would like to see us make progress towards being an outstanding college in 2010 and I think that is a realistic target.

"In the city generally, I would like to see the regeneration project move forward.

"I think the sooner things are completed, the better it will be for everyone, so that is certainly something I would like to see."

Winning the General Election is the main target for Mark Harper, the Forest of Dean's Conservative MP.

"It's not very creative I know, but winning the election has got to be the priority in 2010," he said.

"I don't really make resolutions as I don't believe in them and I don't think anyone really sticks to them.

"But as far as hopes for 2010 go, that would be the best thing I can imagine for the Forest, for Gloucestershire and for the country as a whole."

“I don't consider MPs or other Politicians to be "great", and as we have seen recently they are certainly not "good."”

“If Mark Barber's Liver sees 2011 then it (not it's owner) deserves a Queen's Award for services to the Brewing Industry and Severn Trent Sewage Department. ;)
    Would it be an MBMBE”

“My New Years Resolution is to drink myself into oblivion with super strength cider at every opportunity I get. I also pledge to try and scrounge even more benefits out of the system than I managed to achieve this year.”
