Review: 10cc at Cheltenham Town Hall
Sometimes a step into the past can be a disappointment. But seeing 10CC celebrate 40 years on the road was anything but.
Graham Gouldman might be the only survivor from the original band, but this 10CC replicated that distinctive sound from the 70s and 80s perfectly.

In fact, with Mick Wilson's vocals, the sound was somehow more "10CC" than it was in the first place. The man's a musical genius, switching from one instrument to another so quickly it was difficult to believe he actually knew what he was doing.
And why let a support band spoil the night when you can support yourself? The first half was an acoustic 10CC, with Gouldman leading the way and reminding us that he was not only responsible for writing great songs for this band but for the Yardbirds and The Hollies too.

He wrote the Yardbirds classic For Your Love and, like every song chosen for this set, it allowed the four band members on stage to show off their harmonies to perfection.
But it was the second half we had come to see with, as Gouldman had promised, hit following hit following hit.
I wouldn't have put The Things We Do For Love in my 10CC top ten before. It's right up there now after the way it was performed here.
Everybody wanted to hear I'm Not In Love, of course, and Wilson hit the spot again. But if you're looking for soppy 10CC, it's always been I'm Mandy, Fly Me for me. They flew.
Dreadlock Holiday, Art for Art's Sake, Life is a Minestrone, none of the classics were missing.
Then, not satisfied with a brilliant performance of their first hit single Donna, they celebrated it again in the encore with a majestic A cappella version.
The grand finale? We loaded up those Rubber Bullets and were dancing in the aisles. And most of us were old enough to know better.
