Gloucester MP Richard Graham has likened the city's railway triangle to war torn Yugoslavia as it undergoes a transformation.

Speaking on a video released on Youtube, Mr Graham praises the transformation of the site which is being cleared and flattened ready for a huge new investment.

In the video he comments on how the site has changed from when he first visited it five years ago when it looked like a scene from the former Yugoslavia.

He said it was now undergoing a transformation "from 20 years of mess to 1,000 jobs."

He said: "Five years ago I went into the largest part of the Railway Triangle for the first time – a disgraceful wasteland and symbol of twenty years of failed regeneration attempts.

"Today, thanks to good work between a committed developer LXB and the City Council, and rapid demolition work by Smiths Gloucester, the site is almost cleared.

"Redevelopment follows rapidly for a light industrial site that will provide up to 1,000 new jobs, with flood alleviation tanks below ground, £250,000 of new trees and an entrance to our city to be proud of.

"Barnwood Construction's £8m contract to build a new Morrisons puts investment into the local construction industry and more contracts with other building companies will follow shortly."
