THE education team at Cheltenham-based Rickerbys LLP Solicitors has been shortlisted for the prestigious Legal Advisors of the Year Award in the Education Investor Magazine 2012 Awards.

The final result will be known in November.

The Rickerbys' team has recently completed its 55th Academy Conversion, with a number of others underway, and has developed a national reputation for expertise and knowledge leadership in the education field.

With the advent of the major changes to publicly-funded education in the form of academies, free schools and their off shoots, Rickerbys have used their previous schools experience to achieve a significant national market position in the sector.

Highlights from the team's work includes the establishment of Canary Wharf Academy in London, one of the first Free Schools to launch in September 2011 and the arrangement of a £15 million contract for the construction of the new Gloucester Academy.

It was also behind the ground-breaking procurement of a private profit-making company to manage a new free school under a 10-year, £21 million contract and the establishment of a new Studio School (a new model of school designed as a vocational alternative to traditional schools).

The education team has been expanded with the addition of Matthew Wolton, a procurement expert, and Charlotte Melhuish who specialises in schools immigration.

Rickerbys have also continued to enhance its reputation in the independent school sector with two of the senior team members, Alice Reeve and Kristine Scott, taking the stage at the Independent Schools' Bursars Association (ISBA) conference, one of the major national events for Independent Schools.
