POWERFUL and driving folk-based music inspired by the gypsies of Eastern Europe kicks off the autumn season at The Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury tomorrow night.

At a time when interest in different cultures and traditions is at an all-time high thanks to London 2012, The Budapest Cafe Orchestra contributes by displaying the richness and dynamism of Balkan music in all its untamable glory, giving a tantalising glimpse into a different world.

In a wide-ranging concert featuring everything from impassioned Hungarian czardas to tender Russian folk melodies, rollicking dances from Romania and Moldavia to bitter sweet Jewish laments, plus one or two electrifying compositions of the group's own making, audiences are sure to love the eclectic mix of different musical styles and influences.

The Budapest Cafe Orchestra is made up of Chris Garrick on violin and darbuka, Eddies Hession on free bass accordion, Kelly Cantlon on double bass and Adrian Zolotuhin on guitar, saz and balalaika.
