HAVE YOUR SAY: Is Martin Allen the right man for Cheltenham?
THE pressure final became too much for Cheltenham Town and Keith Downing this weekend.
After last night's crushing 4-1 defeat to Hartlepool, the fourth time the Robins have shipped four goals in six League One matches, Downing's departure was announced the next day.
And within hours, the Gloucestershire echo and thisisgloucestershire.co.uk exclusively revealed that Martin Allen is set to be unveiled as the man to take over at the helm.
So what do you think? Is the man known as 'Mad Dog' right for Whaddon Road?
Can he bring the good times back to Cheltenham and help maintain their stay in League One, or will he struggle - as Keith Downing did - to achieve success with the current group of players?
Should he be given money in the next transfer window, or will he be able to bring more out of the current squad?
Whatever your view, use the form below to let us know...

“Forget attaching blame to either KD or the board for this seasons results to date, we now have a manager with great enthuasiasm and who is more than capable in lifting the Robins up to the middle of the table and beyond, in Martin Allen. Just look at his record at Brentford and MK Dons, especially the former club who I supported as a boy. There is no doubt that he will make his mark on the Robins as much as Steve Cotterill did or more than and will go down in Robins history when he eventually takes up to the Championship.”

“The general standard of League One has increased with Leeds and Leicester bringing new financial clout and other teams being given the money to bring in £500k players.
CTFC have reached an important point in their history. So far the 'tenacious little club' tag has served us well, but this is now being exposed for the non-league mentality it is. Baker needs to leave. The task of turning the club into a solid League One club is beyond him. We need someone to buy the club and inject some cash. Not talking billions here, but enough to allow the club to compete with the big clubs and maybe even flirt with the Chamionship?!
In the meantime, start looking abroad for players. English players will become more and more overpriced so why not start getting some scouting knowledge from abroad and pick up some bargains.
As for Martin Allen...can it get any worse?!”

“I do have a lot of sympathy of KD. Yes, the results were not good enough + the defence is looking shambolic at the mo, but the main reason is becuase I believe the Board and Paul Baker HAVE NOT backed Keith in the same way as they have done with previous managers (Cotterill for example). After last season's heorics, Baker + the Board promised the fans that Chelt would be signing 4 or 5 high quality players - This has NOT happened. The Board also sold Gillespie (our Star Striker by a mile) for PEANUTS, therefore leaving Downing with diddly squat to play with - ONLY 2 permanent signings instead of the 4 or 5 promised, backs this up. I appreciate everything that the Board + Baker have done in getting us to League1, but they have been a DISLOYAL Board towards Downing by not backing him financially as they promised to -the question all fans all to ask the Board is why?? Did they NOT trust Downing to spend the cash? Did the Board mis-lead the fans as to how much cash was actually available for signings + wages? Whatever the reasons, they have failed Downing. Downing did the best job he could with what resources he had - which was paultry compared to even other mid-table teams in League 1 like Hartlepool + Northampton, who get similar crowds to Chelt - where is all the money going? Certainly, not towards building a League 1 team it is not! The Board have far more questions to answer than KD does - good luck in the future KD + thanks for our miracle escape from certain relegation last season - The TRUE fans of Chelt will always be appreciative of what you acheived last season - it's a shame the Board could not show the same support to you this season financially.”

“You can only do so much with a sows ear (ie) the money the board will pay for players and it does not matter who the manager is if he has NO MONEY thanks to the total lack of forsight of the board. They are the only business men I know that have not heard of (you have to speculate to accumulate) ie: if you get good players you will get more bums on seats and start winning games everyone loves a winning team after all who wants to see their team beaten week after week and the supporters go home suiidal. The board have lot to answer for !!!.

“I am fed up with people calling for Steve Cottrill to come back to CTFC. I supported the Robins for 45 years and only stopped because of Cotterill. Yes he took CTFC to league 1 but once there he left; why? because he knew he had gone as far as he could and did not want to spoil his reputation by struggling in league 1. He went to Stoke and then walked out because Howard Wilkinson and Sunderland called and he saw the bright lights and thought this would advance his cause. All it did was show him for what he is;a man with no loyalty and only himself to think of. No clubs want him now so he has got what he deserved. NO MORE talk of Cottrill being the man for CTFC; please. Lets hope Martin Allen proves to be the man, at least hopefully his loyalty will be to the Robins and he will bring a bit of success and passion.”

“Steve Cottrill should get the managers job, also get Neil Grayson back to help him out! Them two would be amazing together, and would get Whaddon Road filled up again and the fans believing in the MIGHTY team of Cheltenham Town.”

“Dave Harris says he wants the board to get someone we've heard of, well who had heard of Arsene Wenger before going to Arsenal, apparently not even the Arsenal players, and that worked out really bad.
Just get the right person for the job.”

“KD ADDING LOAN AVERRAGE PLAYERS TO OUT OF FORM STAFF HAS NOT HELPED THE CLUB. BUT THE BOARD HAS HAD MONEY TO HELP AND DESPITE THEIR STATEMENTS ABOUT MONEY THEY ARE GUILTY OF THIS POSITION REGUARDING PLAYERS AND THEIR QUALITY THE PLAYERS LACK LUSTRE PERFORMANCES HAVENT HELPED AND A MANAGER WITH PASSION AND PLAYERS WITH COURAGEHAVE BEEN SHORT AT THE CLUB . THE CLUB AS A WHOLE NEEDS A GOOD SHAKE UP ,STARTING AT THE TOP ,SO AS TO GET ON COURSE AGAIN ,TO BRING IN FOOTBALL LOVERS TO SUPPORT THEMSOMEONE LIKE COTTERILL MAY FIT THE BILL”
