HAVE YOUR SAY: Royal finances
ARE you happy to fund the Royal Family to the tune of 69p per person?
The total cost of keeping the monarchy increased by £1.5 million to £41.5 million during the 2008-09 financial year, figures revealed this week.

Palace accounts also showed that the Queen dipped into a reserve fund to boost her Civil List by £6 million.
The total £41.5 million cost for the Royal Family excludes the cost security provided by the police and Army, and the ceremonial duties performed by the Armed Forces.
Does the Monarchy represent good value for money?
If you could divert the money spent on keeping the Royals into something else, what would it be?

“I wonder if you travelled back in time what the peasants might think of the royal family?thats if the tyranical ancesters of the royal family permitted them to have an oppion. Now I except that todays royal family may not behave in the same manor or do they?there is still much debate about Philips involvement with the death of Diana for example.I must admit that I admire the work Prince Charles does for the environment and I think that Harry and Wills are credit to the royal family. The Queen, god bless her, puts us all in line on Christmas day and ensures that many ships are covered in champagne and the plaque makers world wide stay in buisness keeping up with all the buildings she opens,COME ON PEOPLE wheres your sense of national pride!,after all we are no longer able to fly the cross of saint George and have all but lost our commonwealth,I think 69p is a small price to pay for have something that indentifys us as british!”

“The royal family have been living off the state for far too long. They are nothing but an inbred collection of fabulously rich scroungers.
The simple solution is for the all the royalty lovers to have money stopped every week to pay for them, including the policing costs to this county.
Then we'll see how many royalists there are.”

“What a load of meanies! I'm quite hard up but happy to pay 69p per year to keep our Royals. The main ones (The Queen, Princes Philip & Charles and Princess Anne) do a lot for this country and it's people in many different ways.
What I do object to is having my hard earned taxes wasted by the government.
The tourism the royals bring in isn't just visits to their palaces; they may see Buckingham Palace but then spend loads of money in London and go to other areas afterwards.”

“I am all for the Royal Family and they deserve every penny. They work hard and pay taxes. I don't mind giving them 69pence.
What I do object to is that my hard earned wages are being given out to the long term unemployed, so that they can buy fags and scratchcards.”
