A HARDWICKE-BASED company which has been catering at large events for more than 40 years has arranged to have all its meat products tested to show that there are no traces of horsemeat.

Family-run SFC Group operates at over 200 events a year. The company said that following the horsemeat scandal, it had arranged for all its meat products to be put through rigorous DNA testing by Worcestershire County Council Scientific Services which is also an official food enforcement control laboratory approved by the European Union. A spokesperson for SFC said: "We can confirm that the burgers are made with beef, sausages with pork and steak pies with steak. There is categorically no horsemeat in any of our products.

"We have confidence in the products we sell to the public at the UK's most prestigious sporting and entertainment events and equally from the suppliers from whom we source these.

"As part of our corporate social responsibility strategy, we decided to commission additional testing of our meat products 10 days ago at a Food Standards Agency recommended laboratory. These results have equally confirmed that there is no horsemeat in any of our products.

"We believe that this level of due diligence was necessary to reassure both our event organisers and consumers attending those events as well as our wholesale customers. "Both the quality of our food and the customer service we provide are of paramount importance to the ethos of our business."

The spokesperson said the company was also lobbying the Government for changes in the funding of the FSA, approved laboratories and enforcement organisations to strive to protect the food chain.

"We will be placing all the lab reports and an official statement on our website today confirming that no horsemeat has been detected in any of our meat products in the public domain."

No products will be sold on any SFC and its Divine units unless they have a bona fide lab report underpinning their authenticity.

SFC provides all the outside catering at Gloucester Rugby under the Divine and Peter's Pies banner.

Stephen Freeman, managing director at SFC Group said: "As part of our commitment to our customers we have commissioned our own independent testing and we will only sell products from our food units which have a full DNA report underpinning their integrity. We would encourage others to follow our lead to protect the food chain in the UK."
