Sadness as The Famous closing down sale begins
ONE of Cheltenham's landmark shops opened its doors today for the start of its closing down sale.
The Famous clothing shop in the High Street started trading way back in 1886.

But after more than a century of serving the town's people the retailer is shutting.
The school wear arm of the business is due to move into the shopping unit further down the High Street, currently occupied by Intersport, and should open on December 17.

But the gentleman's attire section of the business is going for good.
Ross Cole has been involved with The Famous for 51 years and he is currently the chairman of the company.
He said: "It is very sad in one sense of course that we are closing our shop here, but in another it is a planned closure.
"We knew we were going to close two years ago."
